Below is a complete content marketing check-list, all you have to do is follow the steps and watch your content spread across social media. Thank me later for the increase in sales.
The Idea, In a Nutshell:
The common internet marketing strategy that most people follow to promote their websites is this…
Consistently search for specific keywords to target and then write and publish as many articles as possible, making sure to include the keywords in all your articles, and hope for a boost in search engine results.
That’s the standard system that most people use to promote their websites, there’s only one problem; it’s really – really – slow. It takes a long time to see results.
And here on the internet we like fast results. Fast, legitimate, results; no push button scams.
If you’re just writing articles and publishing them on your website without actively marketing them, that’s a huge mistake, and your business will not see rapid growth, and that can be extremely discouraging especially for new marketers.
The point is that you need to actively promote articles, day in and day out, but a lot of website owners have no idea where to share their article links.
They simply click publish and hope that Google will solve all their problems. Unfortunately, that rarely happens. It takes a long time for Google to index articles are rank them accordingly, so waiting for Google is not the best approach.
In this article, we will learn how to actively promote your new content, which social media websites to use, and how to craft content that your readers will love and share with their friends.
Remember, the best kind of marketing is word-of-mouth marketing; and a lot of people talk on social media, it’s social, after-all.
Run through this content marketing check-list and you’ll immediately notice several new benefits such as:
- Increased email list subscribers.
- Improved conversions, more buyers.
- Expanded social media reach, more followers and fans.
- And much more.
The best part?
I purposely chose the simplest content marketing tips to include here, all these tips take less than a few minutes to implement, and you’ll see results almost instantly.
So, if you want to kick-start your business and give it that extra shove it needs to transform into a extremely lucrative venture, continue reading this article.
These tips are all very simple so there is no need to worry about feeling overwhelmed.
Before We Begin…
In order to make the most of this list, it’s recommended to make a habit of completing all these tasks on every new article that you publish on your website.
It’s also recommended to make an effort to network with other members of social media websites and share content as well, there has to be a middle ground.
Give and take.
On that note, one of the absolute best ways to market content is to network with people in your niche and ask them to promote your content, all it takes is a simple email.
Most people forget about this form of marketing and resort to spamming comment sections, article directories, and social media accounts.
All it takes is simple email request.
The Best Time to Promote Your Articles?
The best time to start promoting your content is the moment it’s published.
One of the easiest ways to do this is via WordPress’s share buttons.
Share buttons are not only for readers, anyone can use them to share links on social media, so take advantage of the feature.
You’ll need to install the a simple share plug-in on your website, WordPress includes one by default but you might need to configure it to include all the social media platforms that you will use.
Make it easy for people to share your content and they’ll do it.
You’ll need to have an account with these four social media websites, so if you don’t already, take a moment to set up your accounts and come back.
Unfortunately, a lot of bloggers fail to share their articles on social media, and that handicaps their progress. Then, of course, there’s the other side of the coin; the bloggers that can’t seem to quit shouting about their recent posts.
The key is to find some middle-ground.
Ideally, whenever a new article hits your website you should share it on social media. Naturally, not all social media platforms are equal, and in order for your links to have a positive impact you’ll need to have a lot of followers on your social media profiles.
Or at least a handful of dedicated fans.
(Facebook pages actually don’t bring in much traffic unless you actively engage with your fans. Normally, links shared on a Facebook page won’t show up in a person’s news feed, they have low priority, so keep that in mind)
Best Ways to Share Your New Article on Facebook
This section is all about Facebook, and how to share your content on Facebook for ideal results.
One mistake that a lot of new bloggers make is that they share their articles with their friends on Facebook.
I know, there are some benefits, such as immediate feedback, but it’s not the best way to market content, the chief reason being that your friends are not your target audience.
Your friends are not your target audience!
You don’t have to share your links with your friends, and chances are they don’t want to read all your articles.
It would be better to look for Facebook groups dedicated to a specific interest that is related to your niche and actively seek out people who are genuinely interested in your articles (and not feigning interest because your friendship is on the line).
What’s your Article’s Niche? What is Your Purpose?
What is your website about? What is your article about?
Search for a Facebook group in your niche and see if you can find some really specific groups to join.
I would also suggest that you look for link sharing opportunities, Facebook groups that are dedicated to sharing content. When in doubt you can always create your own Facebook group.
Warning: I noticed most Facebook groups are full of spam, and if a group has thousands of members, the chances of them reading your articles are slim. Therefore, it’s ideal to seek out small and specific groups that are well-monitored, these are full of real people with real accounts, and that’s what we need; we don’t need robot readers. Plus it’s kind of a waste of energy to share articles in groups that don’t deliver results.
I see people making this mistake all the time in Facebook groups, spamming their links everywhere, failing to realize that only one or two people actually see the posts, and nobody clicks on them.
So you have to check out different groups and find the most valuable ones. It wouldn’t make sense to share your links in a bunch of groups if only one actually sends some traffic in your direction. That would be a waste of valuable marketing time.
If you don’t receive any Likes or feedback from a certain group then leave the group and don’t use it, it’s a waste of time. Move on.
Take some time today to find groups that are related to your website’s niche on Facebook. You can always create a second Facebook account for your marketing purposes, I found it’s easier that way because friends aren’t exactly an ideal target audience.
Here are some link sharing Facebook groups; they’re a little packed at the moment, so don’t expect too much feedback.

The Type of Articles That People Love to Share:
Contrary to what you might have been told, not all article topics will be a hit on Facebook, online specific articles tend to go viral.
If you check out your news feed and take note of what type of content your friends share on a regular basis you should notice which articles are a hit and which ones are not. In fact, this a really important tip for marketing on Facebook; pay attention to what your circle of friends are likely to share.
Pay attention to what people share on Facebook! This include your friends!
As it turns out, most people are not that special or unique, if your friends think a certain type of content is interesting there’s a chance a lot of other people do too. Make it a habit to take mental notes of the articles that your friends share.
The truth is some types of content are more likely to be shared on Facebook than others. Certain topics are also more likely to go viral than others, so if you want to increase the chances of your article being a hit on social media, here are some ideas:
Types of articles that are a hit on social media:
- Travel related articles about a specific country or place. People who live in that country will jump at the opportunity to share the link with their friends.
- Controversial articles or reports. These can be a huge hit but you have to make sure that your content is based on facts.
- Case studies. How did someone do something? Write about it!
- List articles. Yep, they’re still alive and people love them.
- Personal experience stories.
- Scientific discoveries.
- And much more!
If your niche is not that interesting it would be a good idea to try and tie your niche to one of the above types of content, link them together, and it might have a better chance of surviving on Facebook (and other social media websites).
If you want people to love your content then you need to create content that people will love, and don’t be lazy about it.
Most bloggers tend to write fast and short articles that don’t contain much value and then share the links on as many different platforms as possible. I guess this is because “Gurus” teach people to fill up a website with content as fast as possible.
Sure, that might bring in some traffic, but the absolute best way to guarantee a positive response on social media is to simply create worthy content.
It has to be good.
As it turns out, that is one of the services that I offer clients. Send me a message and we can talk more.
So, if there is one thing that you should remember from this section, it’s this; well-written and informative content is always a hit on Facebook. Learn how to craft detailed articles and you’ll have no problem marketing on social media.
Use the article style list as a reference and start working on some powerful content that you can share!
Stumble Upon is another content sharing website that can bring in some additional traffic. But you will have to put effort into collecting followers, the more followers you have the more people will see your links.
You also have to be active and share other people’s links and use the website like it was meant to be used, of course, that doesn’t mean you have to spend all day on the website.
How It Works:
The way Stumble Upon works is that you have to select as many topics that interest you as possible, and then you click the red Stumble Button to view random websites, results tailored to your selection. Then, it’s a matter of clicking Like or Dislike and moving onto the next link.
The links with more Likes will be spread to more stumblers, while the links with no Likes will never receive any attention.
(I have to admit that I spent a lot of time on Stumble Upon, it’s definitely an excellent and educational way to kill some time. I found a lot of interesting articles and websites that I wouldn’t have been about to find on my own. It’s also another way to find websites to network with within your niche)
The idea would be to build up a following within your niche, and much like Twitter, the fastest way to build up a following is to simply follow other people and share content.
With Stumble Upon, It’s really easy to add followers and find people who are interested in really specific topics.
I suggest that you avoid following too many people per day otherwise your account might be flagged and banned, but be consistent, soon you’ll notice that more people are returning the favor.
It’s not that difficult to build a list of followers.
How to Build a Following of Specific Followers:
Remember, followers are useless unless they’re interested in your niche.
I understand that most people are interested in a wide variety of topics but it would be counter-productive to attempt to promote your home based business links to people who are solely interested in hamburgers.
I found a really simply way to find people who are interested in specific niches, all you have to do is take advantage of Stumble Upon’s search functions.
Select the interest you desire, and click the Stumble button, the next link will be a page related to the topic you selected.
Notice the “Liked by” label on the top right corner?
Those are people who liked that content, that means they’re interested in that content, and you can follow them with a simple click, most people will follow you back.
As you can see, this is a really fast way to build a following on Stumble Upon. Make it a habit of clicking on some links and following a few people on a daily basis. In a month or two (or less depending on how aggressive you are) the ball will start to roll and you’ll be able to share your own links in the community and benefit from additional, targeted, traffic.
(You can always add links to Stumble Upon even if you don’t have followers, in fact, even if you have 0 followers and submit a powerful article there’s a chance that it will be a hit)
Then, use the social sharing tab to submit your links to Stumble Upon, select the proper category and other details, and wait for the links to be added to the database. This takes less than a minute.
Create an account and start sharing content!
For Twitter, the same rules apply but the platform is a little different.
You have to be active on the website, it doesn’t take that much effort, all you have to do is login once or twice a day and interact with people.
Like Stumble Upon, one fast way to collect followers is to follow other people and hope that they return the favor, most people do.
It’s important to note that once you reach a Follower to Following ratio you won’t be able to follow any more people.
You might also be banned due to suspicious behavior so don’t go trigger happy and follow everyone and their cat, take it a step at a time.
Don’t trigger happy and follow everyone and their cat! Take it a step at time.
Just remember, Tweets need to be short, so I suggest that you use a URL shortener, like Bitly or Tiny URL or WordPress’s default feature. You’ll be able to save more character space for your content’s title.
Also, titles are important, if you want someone to click on your link you have to give them a reason to do so. Titles should trigger curiosity; so work on your titles.
I found that it’s easier to come up with a title for an article once you’re finished writing the meat of the content.
Bonus Twitter Tips:
Here are some bonus Twitter tips that will make it easier for you to promote on Twitter.
I found a company called Triberr, it’s a content sharing platform with a focus on Twitter, and you can join or create groups for specific interests, view links, and network. It encourages people to share Tweets and interact with one another; something that you need in order to create a positive fan-base.
It’s another way to bring in some bonus traffic but you have to learn how to use the platform, and unfortunately, that will be the subject of a different article.
Soon you’ll notice that a lot of people are re-tweeting your links and your presence on Twitter will continue to grow; it’s all a matter of providing value.
You should also pay attention to hashtags, some hashtags have high traffic news-feeds. I recommend including a few hashtags that relate to the topic of your article or the media that you want to share.
Like other social media websites, sharing other people’s content is one of the fastest ways to attract more followers.
On Twitter, all you have to do is re-tweet posts that you find interesting or reply to other people’s Tweets, in other words, aim to be as active as possible; it pays in the long run, nobody wants to follow ghosts.
Interact with your followers, re-tweet and reply to their tweets!
It will also be a good idea to try and build your fan-base the organic way; keep a link on your website or service page and make it easy for people to follow you.
Let’s talk about Reddit.
Reddit, the front page of the internet, is one of the largest social media websites on the planet but it’s often ignored when it comes to marketing content.
The reason being that it’s member’s are picky and they won’t accept just anything!
Like other social media websites, Reddit has it’s own set of rules and characteristics that make marketing on it a challenge for the inexperienced marketer.
Here are some tips that will make it easier for you to share content on Reddit.
(On a side note, I did share an article on a lesser-known sub-reddit and received over 1,000 views, it’s all a matter of finding the right place for your articles)
First, one must understand the playing field and the rules.
Reddit is unlike other social media websites because it has a very anti-advertisement community and the community can up-vote or down-vote links as they please, so it pays to learn what the community prefers to see instead of watching all your links be down-voted into oblivion.
The votes are really important; if a couple of people up-vote a link it will head to the top of the category’s news feed, meaning more people will check it out.
The more up-votes a link receives the longer it will remain on the front-page and that means more traffic.
Similarly, if a link doesn’t receive any up-votes it will never hit the front-page and very little traffic will come through.
Links are at the mercy of the community, that’s why it’s so important to create useful, in-depth, well-written content.
Quality content will marketing itself organically, therefore, creating quality content should be your number one goal; take your time with each article, and make sure it’s extremely informative. Or hire someone who knows how to create the type of content that your business needs.
If you write an article that is legitimately informative, readers will want to share it with their friends, and they’ll market it for you.
It’s okay if an article takes a week or more to write, as long as it is full of easy to implement advice, it will be worth it.
The more time you invest into something that the better the end result.
Wait a second!
You might be making some serious content marketing mistakes!
How to Use SubReddits:
Subreddits are basically Reddit’s categories, and they’re categories for pretty much everything under the sun (and you can make new ones, too).
When publishing a link to Reddit you will need to choose the best subreddit for the link. I recommend doing some research to find the ideal subreddit for your links.
It’s also important to note that some subreddits are more effective than others, it’s not difficult to see which ones are active and which ones are not, simply take a look at the stats or the recently published links.
I also don’t recommend sharing the same link in more than one subreddit, Reddit has a very low tolerance for spammers, and if they suspect that you are spamming links your account will be blocked.
Therefore, take it easy, and don’t share the same links in different subreddits.
Extra Reddit Content Sharing Tips:
Each sub-reddit has it’s own community and it’s own tastes, tailor articles to these needs and you’ll be able to dominate the sub-reddit and be rewarded with waves of highly targeted traffic.
For instance, I was taking a look at some sub-reddits about depression, took notes of what people were sharing in those sections, and went ahead writing an article for those specific people. The result? I got over 1,000 views on that article alone!
If you take the time to listen to what people are struggling with it will be much easier for you to write an article that solves their problems!
Solve someone’s problems and they’ll look for a way to return the favor, this usually means sharing the article with as many people as possible.
We’re Almost Done!
So we learned about Facebook, Twitter, Stumble Upon, and Reddit.
You’re now armed with valuable marketing tips that you can use to promote your business to the four corners of the earth!
But wait, it’s not over…
Surely there must be a faster way to share your content without having to sign into each individual social media account?
Of course, there are plenty of tools that allow you to inter-link social media accounts and share content instantly on all of them with a click of a button.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that there are a few problems with automation, so don’t rely on it too heavily.
How to Automatically Share New Article Links on Your Social Media Profiles…
If you include all the social media sharing buttons on your newly published articles, all it takes is a few clicks to share the links on your social media accounts.
WordPress also makes it easy to automatically publish new article links to Facebook pages and Twitter.
Even though recommend the manual procedure, there are other tools that you can use to save time and make your life easier.
Here is a list of some social media automation tools:
Got more? Leave a comment!
You will lose the custom link message.
If people see a bunch of posts that seem like they were posted by a bot they won’t want to stick around on your social media profile.
You also won’t be able to target hashtags or interact with readers as easily. I recommend setting up automation for specific social media accounts, like Facebook pages, but manually share the rest.
If you have a Facebook page for your business it makes sense to configure your latest blog posts to end up on your Facebook page for convenience.
There’s no need to panic, there are really only 3 other social media accounts that you need to share your links on, this takes a grand total of a couple of seconds.
Of course you will need a social media presence for your links to be seen.
Conclusion and Final Notes:
I’m glad you stuck with me this far!
When it comes down to it, content marketing is only as powerful as the content that you’re trying to promote.
If you promote poorly written and poorly researched articles that don’t benefit anyone, all your content marketing efforts will be in vain because nobody really wants to read low quality articles.
You’ll spend a lot of time and energy marketing something that nobody really wants, it’s a waste of time.
On the other hand, if you write articles that are genuinely useful, it will be difficult to stop the content from spreading across the world.
You can be the world’s top content marketer, but if your content is junk, nobody will be interested in your business.
That’s one of the reasons company’s are willing to spend a lot of money to hire writers who are capable of creating valuable articles (such as myself) the type of articles that bring in thousands of new readers and fans.
Use This Article as a Reference:
So, remember, this article is your content marketing checklist, but the first step is to create valuable content for your readers, not for search engines or spam bots. Once you have the content in your hand and ready to promote, it’s time to run through the checklist and share your article with the world.
If everything works out, the article will bring in a some fast traffic from social media and then settle in the search engine results, thus guaranteeing a steady stream of targeted traffic directed at your business.
That means more sales.
